What's a Mindset and Why Does It Matter?

A mindset is like a pair of glasses through which we see the world. It comprises our beliefs, values, and assumptions, shaping how we feel, think and act—whether as individuals, in teams, or even in whole organisations.

Our mindsets can influence how we tackle challenges and seize opportunities!

  • Why Should We Pay Attention to Our Mindset in the Game?

  1. How We See Things: Our mindset affects who we are being, how we perceive our surroundings and how we interpret what happens to us.

  2. Guiding Our Actions: Mindsets drive our behaviours and what we do and say, ultimately shaping our results.

  3. Team Spirit: A team's positive mindset can boost collaboration and creativity, while a fixed mindset can hold us back.

  • What does it take to build our brains' Cognitive Agility?

Thinking differently makes us more agile and adaptable, especially in challenging and uncertain situations.

Instead of reacting defensively, we can open our minds to new possibilities!

Focusing on our mindset helps us channel our emotional energy positively, making us more agile thinkers.

Specific mindsets are also fundamental to becoming a successful innovator, entrepreneur, or intrapreneur who thrives on the ups and downs of the innovation rollercoaster.

  • How are our mindsets fixed, or can they shift and grow?

What is a Fixed Mindset?

This mindset can feel rigid. People with a fixed mindset might avoid challenges because they fear failure and want to stick to what they know.

What is a Growth Mindset?

On the other hand, a growth mindset is about embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and being open to new ideas.

This mindset is key to team success!

  • What does working together as an effective team involve?

  • Encourage Each Other. If you notice a teammate holding on to a fixed mindset, gently challenge those ideas by asking open, provocative and disruptive questions!

  • It is essential to create a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and hearing what people feel and think.

  • Give Feedback: Sharing constructive feedback helps everyone improve and grow.

Let’s persist in discovering and exploring new and creative ways to play and win the game together!

  • Reflecting on Our Mindset

Consider how your thoughts and feelings might impact your performance and your team.

  • Will they help you succeed, or might they get in the way?

For things to change, first, I must choose to change!

Be brave and open to shifting your mindset.

Experimenting with new ways of thinking will lead to amazing effectiveness and results for you and your team!
