Round 1
Getting started
-
Form 1-4 teams of 1-4 players.
-
Teams review and choose their start-up challenge from the list of twelve business challenge options:
-
The team quickly discusses the nature and scope of their team’s start-up challenge,
-
The team creates their team name and chooses their team's token.
-
Teams set up the game board app and place the dice and cards in allocated positions.
-
Teams watch the first Game Overview Videos by clicking the QR codes to begin the game.
-
The team refers to the Game Infographic to check the Rules and gameplay.
-
Teams watch the first learning videos by clicking the QR codes in the GAME START position and are awarded 250 crypto points.
-
The teams roll the dice again to determine which team goes first. The team with the lowest score starts the game.
Playing the game
-
Throughout the game, various actions must be performed as determined by where they land on the board.
Movement
-
Play begins after all teams have taken turns to roll the dice and move their team tokens accordingly.
-
Teams must move the entire number of spaces as indicated by the dice they have rolled and may move in either a forward or backward direction.
-
When Teams land on an element they have already completed, they have to make an extra move costing 100 crypto points per roll until they land on a new element until they have landed on all five elements. This represents the effects of “Budget Erosion”, so the team's move represents their “Burn Rate”.
Timing
-
Each play takes 5 minutes after the tokens are placed in their final resting spots.
-
1-2 minutes = Teams must perform the corresponding action and discuss it internally,
-
3-5 Minutes = All teams must share the results of that round’s “action” and encapsulate any discussions they had.
Actions
When a team lands on any one of the five different elements, they must follow the instructions and play it accordingly:
-
RISK - Pick up a Risk card from the pack to represent the risk scenario confronting them in the game. Round 1 rewards and consequences are shown on the card's flip side and the Round 2 team activity is also shown below. Read, and reflect on how they might mitigate against it as you continue playing the game. (Risk adversity/manage risk/risk plan/VUCAH)
-
MINDSET - Pick up a Mindset card, read, and reflect on how they might apply what is written on the card to accelerate their team to win the game. (Personal Responsibility, Growth- fixed. Beginners, adaptive, and gamer- smart risk/fear of failure. Possibility/imagine-wonder, Inclusion, and collaboration.)
-
TEAM - Throw the dice again, noting the number scored, checking their number against the team effectiveness barometer on the board, checking their score, and determining whether they have been rewarded or have to pay a penalty.
-
SUSTAINABILITY—Pick up a PPP card to represent and discuss their approach to a possible values dilemma with the Sustainability Goals, allocating crypto points accordingly.
-
GROWTH - Throw the dice and scores accordingly.
-
One or a 2 represents organic growth = 100 crypto points
-
Three or a 4 represents incremental growth = 500 crypto points
-
5 represents a radical or disruptive innovation = 1000 crypto points
-
6 enables the team to introduce a Moonshot Idea to accelerate and advance their growth and increase their value towards winning the game = 5000 crypto points
Ending the Game
The game nears completion once each team has reached the end of the infinity loop and the finish line.
Each team completes a final Roll-Off of the dice and keeps rolling until they achieve the exact number required to land on the Game Finish Line and end the game.
The team that crosses the finish line first receives a bonus of 2,500 crypto points.
•Round 1 Reflection - teams take 5 minutes and give feedback to the other teams using at least 2 - 3 of the following discussion points:
-
What was our crucial highlight in playing the game?
-
What key factors contributed to our success or learning?
-
What are the key factors we are most proud of?
-
What caused our team the most stress and the most pain?
-
What impeded our efforts to win the game?
-
What does your team wish would have turned out better?
-
What learnings can you take forward to apply in your business environment?
The Winning Team
-
The winning is the team with the most crypto points accumulated on the game leaderboard by the end of the game.
-
This may not necessarily be the first team to cross the game finish line.
-
Teams complete the Team Pause Point upon completion of the game.
-
Upon ending the game, each team presents its three-minute story (problem, value proposition, business model, takeaways) and responds to questions and feedback from the other teams.
-
The winning team has the most crypto points accumulated on the game leaderboard by the end of the game.
